Hitting the Limits of AWS X-Ray?

Limited Time Windows, Fragmented Debugging, No AI Assistance

Limited

"X-Ray only lets me query 6 hours of traces at a time. During incidents, I need to see the bigger picture."
Platform Engineer
"The trace visualization is basic. No flamegraphs, no span-level breakdowns."
Senior SRE

Fragmented

"I have to jump between X-Ray, CloudWatch Logs, and CloudWatch Metrics. Nothing is connected."
DevOps Lead
"Correlating a trace to the relevant logs requires copy-pasting IDs between consoles."
Backend Engineer

Lacks AI

"No automated insights. I manually sift through traces hoping to find the culprit."
Engineering Manager
"I can't use AI agents to connect to AWS X-Ray and debug issues for me."
Site Reliability Engineer

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from teams using AWS X-Ray.

Can I use my existing X-Ray instrumentation with Oodle?

Oodle supports OpenTelemetry-native ingestion, and you can use the AWS Distro for OpenTelemetry (ADOT) to send traces to Oodle. This means you can gradually migrate without changing your application code — just update your exporter configuration.

How does Oodle's AI debugging help during incidents?

When an issue occurs, Oodle's AI analyzes traces, logs, and metrics together to identify likely root causes. It provides natural language explanations, highlights anomalous spans, and suggests investigation paths. Our MCP integration even lets you debug directly from your IDE.

What about AWS-native service integrations?

While X-Ray has native AWS service integrations, Oodle works with any service instrumented with OpenTelemetry. You can instrument your application code running in any AWS Service (AWS Lambda, ECS etc.) using OpenTelemetry SDK to send traces to Oodle.

How does pricing compare to X-Ray?

X-Ray charges based on number of traces ingested. Even small traces (e.g. health checks) costs as much as actual request traces. Oodle uses simple volume-based pricing (based on GBs ingested) with configurable retention. Most teams find Oodle more cost-effective, especially at scale.
